Anna is on TV!

A quick one for today with Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs starring in an interview with Jimmy Fallon in his show. It's quite hilarious and fresh to see Anna not being so serious and have some humor in her. Though no matter where she is, she still has the aura of her that intimidates people.
She is the Devil Wears Prada - well, devil with the bob cut.

Marc is a fun to watch too. Enjoy, the interview on Fashion's Night Out and reliving some past experience of Anna and Marc. Love the commet by Marc, "But, unfortunately, or fortunately, one can't say no to Anna." That shows Anna's power in a way.

On another note, Anna kinda complained about Lady Gaga during her performance for Met Ball.

Enjoy!

Re-use and Re-cycle?

I understand that there's a certain signature to every artist's creation. Be it designers, painters, photographers or directors. They might have a certain feel and signature to it and you would know if it is theirs when you see it.

But I feel that Juergen Teller is a bit way too much. I understand there are differences between his works but it's getting bored. He shoot quite a few Marc Jacobs campaigns with the same feel. Monotonous camel-ish color feel, with a white border, overly bright and the brand at the bottom.

It getting a bit old for me. Having a signature is one thing but being repetitive is another. here's another one. Feel the repetitiveness? I do. Like it but come on, change a little.

Still love your work but when the Celine ad came out, I was like "Ugh!". Having the same pattern for one designer is okay, but for both Marc and Celine too?

So like Stylefile says, "Yea, Nay or Eh?"

Ciao.

Fashion Digest: Armor is the new black!; Louis Vuitton Tattoos?; Ken Overshadows Barbie?

After a week of hiatus, I am back with more digest, some of them are last week's news but I thought I should share it. it is quite intriguing for me. Enjoy, babes!

  _____________________________

Ken Overshadows Barbie?
Now we all know the famous celebrity couple Ken and Barbie, the perfect couple that all kids love. Well that being said, Barbie had always been the limelight between the two. It's a normal celeb thing that happens to all Hollywood couples - Ken was like a backdrop.

But recently, Ken stole the limelight from Barbie when he got a more prominent role in the film, Toy Story 3. Yup, he got double the dialogues than Barbie and he plays the bad guy turned good.

That is the best moment for Ken and definitely boost his resume. Later he was shot by Esquire UK magazine. A six page spread in the world renowned mens magazine. He is at the top of his game. let's just hope that Barbie takes it well.

Prada, Gucci and Burberry created exclusive outfits just for Ken for this shoot. Talk about high end doll fashion.

Armor is the new black!
I think it is official now. Armor inspired jackets are the new black for the season. Most notably in menswear as I had shown you in my previous posts. Armor inspired outfits had been done before but not on my watch. So I find it rather exciting.

True. It might be done before but it was forgotten for some time and it's making a comeback now.

And this new exciting piece from Lacoste is just breathtaking. The creator Li XiaoFeng definitely had the edge for making porcelain like polos. So those who has antique vases that was broken to pieces, bring it to Li and you get your self a fab shirt.

I wonder where can I get something like this or the Burberry Terracotta in a lower end brand. That's life of a student for you. Broke as ever.

Louis Vuitton Tattoos?
Thought of getting a tattoo youself? Well Try this one. Louis Vuitton tattoos, nothing better to express your love to the brand than to brand yourself with it. Alright, am joking here.

Thess tatts were for the LV's menswear show recently, done by Scott Campbell who did Marc Jacobs tattoos too. Now, not only did he do the tattoos for the models, he was also asked to design patterns for a series of bags for the mens collection. A chinese Kilin (eastern take on unidorn) inspired tattoo embedded to the bags. They have it in patent leather and also in the Damier Canvas a.k.a LV checker.

Well, that all for now. Next post would be on Haute Couture! It has begun!!

Walk of Fame: CFDA Awards 2010

How could I end the topic on CFDA without a cover on the red carpet of that night. And this carpet in particular weighs more than any other red carpets like Oscars, Grammy et al. Normal red carpets are only celebrities (actor/esses, singers, artist) but like the MET ball, this has what the normal ones have and more (designers, models, editors, bloggers). Of course, I have to get a post on it.

Before I show you the red carpet looks, let's talk about CFDA Awards happenings that I missed before. One of the things is the Special Tribute Award for McQueen. Told you that but did you know during the award, the Fall/Winter 2010 collection was showcased for more to see. As most of you might know, the collection was only shown to a handful of editors in a private event and all we could see is photos of it. But during the awards, guests and VIPs were graced with the collection as a tribute to the late McQueen.

Also, have you heard of the Kors story. So during the award for Michael Kors, Anna Wintour, e-i-c of Vogue/presenter of the award told us stories of Kors that we had never heard of. One of the big ones (now talked all over the net) was how Michael avoided a certain designer on a beach, just to aviod being seen in swimming trunks. Hmm...

Now back to the red carpet, Anna Wintour graced us with a Carolina Herrera dress with leaf prints on. Simple, chic and so much less extravagant that her dress for MET. Sarah Jessica Parker came in a butterfly inspired print McQueen evening dress chosen exclusively for her by Sarah Burton, the new creative head.

Young star, Dakota Fanning came in a beautiful Marchesa cocktail princess dress and Brian Atwood black open toe pumps. Vanessa Traina accompanied by Altuzarra, came in a fabulous dress altered and remade by Altuzarra from his recent collection. The final look was so much better than the one I saw on Style.com where they shown the fitting session.

More styles of guests as follows:

Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, winners of the night.
Marc in a crisp black suit and Wang in a simple white shirt. Both showing their personal style and design aesthetic like their works.

(Left)Tonne Goodman  and Carmen Kass (Right) in Michael Kors.
Michael Kors designs were everywhere that night.
Doutzen Kroes was also spotted wearing one of it.

Proenza Schouler designer team and Liya Kebede in their design.
Fabulous dress which was worn to the after party too with a tee on top of it (Right)

Model assembles in designs by Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang. Look more like a fashion shoot than a red carpet.

Alexander Wang design in a model assemble.

Last item before I end my hype on CFDA Awards, is of course the after-party at the top of Standard Hotel. Partying all night, win or lose. Another year came and gone. May those who did not win, get it next year. Those who did, continue to flourish!!

Ciao.

Who Grabbed It at CFDA?

Finally, fashion equivalent of Oscars, the CFDA Awards was done and over with. I have mixed feelings about this. Happy that the winners were announced and my favs got it. Sad that it's over and another year to wait. Happy again because it was such a fabulous event (I want the red carpets asap!). Sad because I'm not a part of this night.

Whilst writing this, the after party in New York had probably begun. As they sip cocktails and talk about the night, I am here in my room, eating Milo yogurt and posting on my blog. Fun. Well, beggars can't be choosers. At least now I feel that I'm a small part of the event.
Well, on the winners! I have to say, if you read my previous post about predictions, then you know how true was the link I posted up. Almost everything hits its mark for the Awards. Fantastic.

Marc Jacobs won Womenswear Designer of The Year, and Alexander Wang bagged the Swarovski Accessories Designer of The Year. Love this result! Probably for Wang, it's like a consolation prize for not winning the Womenswear Award but an award is still an award, right?

Here's the list:

Board of Directors Special Tribute
Alexander McQueen
Womenswear Designer of the Year
Marc Jacobs
Menswear Designer of the Year
Rag & Bone
Accessory Designer of the Year
Alexis Bittar
Swarovski Award for Womenswear
Jason Wu
Swarovski Award for Menswear
Richard Chai
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design
Alexander Wang
International Award
Christopher Bailey for Burberry
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award
Michael Kors
Eugenia Sheppard Award
Paper Magazine’s Kim Hastreiter
Eleanor Lambert Award
Vogue’s Tonne Goodman
L’Oréal Popular Vote Award
Ralph Lauren
 ____________________________
Though some of my other favs did not win, but I think they have a good shot next year. Altuzarra, you're still fresh! There's plenty of chance.

Speaking of awards, the L'Oreal Popular Vote Awards, I think this was the one that we were allowed to vote on the website. Ralph Lauren won and I'm quite sadden by it. I thought Marc Jacobs would have a shot. Then again, Ralph Lauren is like a household brand in US, figures.

Well, all well ends well. Let's hope for another year of fabulous designs from them.
Ciao

CFDA Awards Predictions

With CFDA Awards coming up in a few hours, I can hardly sleep without thinking about it. With my mind wandering, i stumbled upon this prediction which I found quite true and satisfying. Marc Jacobs and Alexander of my fav list would win something. It's like the best combo. Though in the list, Altuzarra might not win. A pity but it seemed true (the predictions). So again fingers crossed for them!

Oh and am happy that Alexander McQueen will be getting the Special Tribute Award. Did I mention that? I think I did and Sarah Jessica will be presenting. Love.

Oh, and Tonne Goodman for Eleanor Lambert Award. In case you don't know, Goodman is the fashion director in Vogue!

Oh and Christopher Bailey of Burberry gets the International Award. I know there's too many "Oh"s but I'm excited! It's awesome.

Check here for the predictions: Who will be honored for CFDA Awards?

Ciao ><

PS: Blogger hates me. On more than one occassion, it shuts my Mozilla when I try to view/customize my blog. But posting has no problems. Why? It's either Blogger or Mozilla that hates me... I wonder.

Michael Kors for CFDA Lifetime Achievement

Big Announcement! Michael Kors is to receive the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Awards in less than 6 hours. Good one, Kors!

From starting his own label when he was 19 to becoming Celine's creative head at 1997, Project Runway's judge, he sure made his mark in the industry.  he is the acclaimed All American designer especially in American sportswear.

So, congratulations and I hope to see more from him. Can't wait for the CFDA in less than 6 hours! Wonder who would win.

I am torn for the Womenswear Designer of the Year, Marc jacobs or Alexander Wang? Both are my current favs. Maybe Marc, since he's more established and Wang has a longer way to go. Then again, both of them are successful. Hmm..

I'm all for Altuzarra for the Swarovski Womenswear Award. Fingers crossed and may the best designer win!

Louis Vuitton's New Flagship in London

So last week, Louis Vuitton opened its new flagship store in London's trendy Bond Street. Calling it a store might just be an understatement of the year for LV. The "store" was more like a mansion, and it kicked the Paris store's sweet little ass. I thought the store in Avenue des Champs-Élysées,  Paris was amazing when I went there two years ago but this London sanctuary is far more extravagant.

They had an exclusive exhibition of Marc Jacobs's twelve years worth of work in LV. Did anyone manage to go and got some photos? Let me know, pretty please?

The store is the work of none other than Peta Marino, the mastermind of the Champs-Élysées store. Kudos for him. Both were build with impeccable detail. A true work of art.
This London maison houses three levels with a space of 1500 square feet. The ground floor as always is dedicated for the accessories, from bags, clutches to keychains and connected to a lower ground floor as the men's club area for customers to rest and relax especially when the female counterpart is off in a spree. Also, in the ground floor, there is artworks of Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince, designed specifically for this store.
On to the first floor, it's all dedicated for womenswear and shoes with luxurious changing rooms for customers to change with elegance. Also it houses a unique library which will showcase the best of British contemporary Art Books and bespoke commissions by artists including Anish Kapoor, Chris Ofili and Gary Hume.

And finally, the last floor. A private client suite that could only be accessed by invitation. So if you're in the area, just check it out. Let me know if you can snap some shots =)

On the other hand, here a fun clip to watch of Marc Jacobs and Katie Grand as they raid the Louis Vuitton archives. The mannequins were fabulous! I wonder if one day I could keep one?

PS: Check this book out. I got a glimpse in the library before but it's gone now and it's a fun read. I wonder who took it?

Another Late Night with Calvin & Show Studio

Time for another last night post before I sleep. One of the things that kept me awake tonight (it's 3 am) is Show Studio. For some reason, I forgot how I ended up in that website. It's a fashion blog/website that has projects featuring numbers of celebrities including designers. Well, the one who caught me in the net was Lady Gaga when she did an interview with Alexander Fury.

Check the site: Showstudio

Basically the questions are from all around the world, from John Galliano, Gareth Pugh, Quetin Tarantino to Edison Chen (Ugh). It was rather fun and interesting to watch. I'll talk less and put the video here for you people to watch.

(am not sure whether the link would change or not, Just find archive if it doesn't work. Sorry)

Another two videos in there that caught me were the new ad for Alexander McQueen's Puma and the full show for McQueen's "Plato's Atlantis" collection and a personal interview with the man himself. And again just watch it.

Alexander McQueen - Plato's Atlantis from SHOWstudio on Vimeo.

RAW POWER! (Click to watch since I can't embed it)

What's a post without a bit of fashion digest for the day. First off, we have CFDA Awards coming in 6 days. I would so trade anything to attend that awards night. it's gonna be major! But I'm a nobody now. Swear to god, that one day I'm gonna be on the list!
So, the council just released a bit of preview for viewers to get a taste of the awards. The council released some pictures that they shot of the designers nominated for the awards - that will be in a journal for the awards. It was quite an intimate shoot where all designers and their muses/aesthetics. A few was shown including Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Donna Karan. Somebody get me the damn book! I want it!

 Marc Jacobs
Nominated for:
Womenswear Designer of the Year
Accessory Designer of the Year

 Alexander Wang
Nominated for:
Womenswear Designer of the Year
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design

 Donna Karan
Nominated for:
Womenswear Designer of the Year

That's all the digest for to night, nothing much but enough for the day - I figured. Nah, I'm just being lazy. Another a sneak peek to what I have been up to. I have always wanted to brush up my illustration skills for fashion but of course, I procrastinated as always. So I did something simple out to try out.

It's just something lame. Am trying to get the anatomy correct before I go for the design part. What do you think? For an amateur, is it bad??? I have more but this is the one I colored for the first time, so I decide to post it up. Don't laugh ><

Anyway Ciao for the night.

Fashion Digest: the Best of Models 2010; Marc Jacobs Nude Ad? etc

Time for my next digest on fashion. It's 1 am and not getting to bed yet, so I figured that I should put another digest since there's not much of runways now. So enjoy the big news. Today we have Top 10 Highest Earning Models, released a while ago, Marc Jacobs nude for his BANG perfume, and AMerica's Next Top Model wins over contract for Vogue Italia.

So every year, Forbes puts up list of various things, from richest man, most influential woman and also the top earning models. I just found the list a while ago and here goes. For three years in a row, Gisele Bundchen is in first place on the list, earning $25 million for the last year. Without a doubt, she is the most successful model of my time, which is now. Then Heidi Klum was second with $16 million, topping Kate Moss with $9 million. For the full list, - Just click on the More scribbling for more.

I noticed that most listed here as Angels of Victoria's Secret, which goes to show that VS pays well and good luck for others who joined the team, especially Kylie Biscutti who debuted in VS 2009 through winning a competition. No professional modelling before but she was lucky for winning it. So maybe we'll see more of her?

_______________________________________

On the other hand Marc Jacobs just launched his new fragrance BANG. It's something to celebrate but reviews had been up saying that Marc went over the top, posing nude with the fragrance placed to cover his privates. Fashionista.com actually wrote a letter addressing Marc, how they miss the old eccentric, chic, and unique Marc and think he should not be so sexual which 'they' think spoils his image. Ugh, I mean, come on! It's not the first time he did it, he did himself nude for a line of his t-shirt, Protect The Skin You're In, alongside celebrities and models. What's the big deal? He's still talented and the ad is just a expression of him. So? Sex sells for all that matters. Still love him whatever he chose to pose in.

_______________________________________

Last on the list,  America's Next Top Model. Finally Tyra Banks manage to score something better for the models to compete for. A cover and spread in Vogue Italia magazine. After a long run of Seventeen magazine, they finally get something which matters. Don't get me wrong, Seventeen is a good teenage magazine. There's all to it, TEEN! Being in it opens doors but that does not make you a Top Model per se. You need international FASHION magazines. Thank god for Andre Leon Talley joining the panel. Sure makes things better. Andre is the main reason they got Vogue Italia - IMO. So kudos for them and too bad for the previous winners which we never heard much from anymore. Maybe this time, a real Top Model will come. Good luck, America!

New York Fashion F/W 2010

As leaves turn green and flowers blossom, New York is once again beaming with anticipation. What would Marc Jacobs present this season? Carolina Herrera? How about Alexander Wang, the new prodigy to the American fashion throne.

With this being said, this season is filled with dark colors - black to be exact and Furs! After being away from furs for a while, designers this season had decided to go ahead and embrace the beauty of furs, especially since it's for the fall/winter collection. Without a doubt, fur is one of the most significant relevance to the whole winter season. I bet Anna Wintour is exceptionally happy about this. Be it trenches, coats, skirts or hats, everything is warm and fuzzy.

Designers like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Donna Karan, Oscar de le Renta, Thakoon and many more embraced this two elements in their collection

Marc Jacobs decides to go back to his roots in aesthetic after a long venture to so many different style from his own. He finally settled down in his aesthetics. He revisits everything he had done before but reworking the designs through buttons, hems, and shapes. Therefore you might think that you have seen the looks before but unable to pin point it to anything you know and that's what make him so great. A slight change to the new designs gives it a whole new look. One of my favorite is the silver cream-ish colors dress which to me looked like expensive rare glossy muslin - totally hot!
All by Marc Jacobs

Another thing quite familiar from Marc is the heels. He, out of a few other designers decides to fight the trend of extremely high heels and tries to push forward low heels which is more comfortable and still fabulous to wear.

The Fabulous Low Heels

Another few designers decides that they should revisit their past and extract something new are Donna Karan, Oscar de le Renta and Calvin Klein.

Oscar was another one that amazed me. His classic 1920s day wear to his 1950s evening was simple breathtaking. It was all about Hollywood glam back in those days. Matched with expensive looking fur, I wonder is there any actress who wouldn't want to be dressed by him. One things for sure, it's Oscar for the Oscars this season.
Two fabulous gowns of Oscars standards and a very Amelia Earhart inspired daywear.

New York Fashion Week

It's that time of the year again - Spring/Summer Fashion Week.
Totally excited for it, so far it started from New York to London and now at Milan. So far so good I'd say. So I'm gonna start off with New York first. As most might know (if they're into fashion), this year Vogue's Almighty Anna Wintour (sometimes known as Nuclear Wintour) and all designers, celebrities and socialites hosted Fashion's Night Out internationally. From New York to London and even China.

Though I must say, it mostly revolves around New York. It was like a kick start event before Fashion Week. If you were fortunate unlike me, which means you were in NY, you get to meet tons of celebrities everywhere. Blake Lively at Ralph Lauren, Oscar De La Renta serving in his boutique, Heidi Klum in the Victoria's Secret store, Charlize Theron at Dior... just to name a few.
Anyway it was amazing though I was not there. Reading updates on twitter and websites made me so envious. Not that I would be able to buy anything if I were there but at least I could have gotten the FNO t-shirt. Prices are hiking in eBay now. Damn!

So back to Fashion Week, I have to say I am impressed. Everything was very accessible and consumer friendly. Not too over the top that you can’t wear it but still makes you stand out of the crowd.

This season and the last, designers focused on bring the edgy side of women. Women are not always soft, they can be hard ass and beautiful which brings us to the 'yin and yang' effect where clothes are hard but at the same time soft.

One might say the GFC affects all and no ones buying anything now. Maybe that's why I think most designers this season chose to go for the more accessible and commercial look. It's ready to wear anyway.

So indulge in collection:

Marc Jacobs
It's back to the ballet theater and opera.
Note the shoes? All flats! Finally, so over and done with the insanely platforms.
It's casual, easy and romantic. Still fabulous.

Vera Wang
Sensual but tomboy. The layering and silhouette was effortless but when one looks, they know how much work was in it.
May look simple but added with the accessories, it just blings it all up.

Marc by Marc Jacobs
One of the very few during Fashion Week that shows a bit of menswear. Love it. Absolutely lively and bright compared to the more classic look in Marc Jacobs collection.

Alexander Wang
This season, Wang brings us to the varsity inspired world.
With the longs socks and varsity patterns, it was simple, youthful but topping the top.

Michael Kors
This season, it is Zips for Michael. Using it to put make the clothes pop even in plain colors.
A hinge of hardness in the soft and elegant clothes.

Plus, pastel colors for Michael - first time in his career.
Gives out the futuristic feel and as Michael Kors said, "Gaga Gorgeous!"

Marchesa

Need to say anymore? Perfect gowns for the red carpet as always.

Simple silhouettes but still looking modern and timeless.
Lovely and complicated draping too.

I have to say this season is impressive and about GFC? God, I don't think you can feel the recession with this going on. The air around the Bryan Park tent radiates luxury and wealth. As Fashion Weeks comes, it marks the New Years in fashion. As the old always say - New Year, New Beginnings. So let's hope it is a better year for the Fashion World.

Okay, next stop! It is London. The Burberry and Vivienne Westwood awaits. Till next time, bye =)
