Anna is on TV!

A quick one for today with Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs starring in an interview with Jimmy Fallon in his show. It's quite hilarious and fresh to see Anna not being so serious and have some humor in her. Though no matter where she is, she still has the aura of her that intimidates people.
She is the Devil Wears Prada - well, devil with the bob cut.

Marc is a fun to watch too. Enjoy, the interview on Fashion's Night Out and reliving some past experience of Anna and Marc. Love the commet by Marc, "But, unfortunately, or fortunately, one can't say no to Anna." That shows Anna's power in a way.

On another note, Anna kinda complained about Lady Gaga during her performance for Met Ball.

Enjoy!

Fashion Digest: Madonna A Virgin Again?; Proenza on Art?; Anna And Grace Dolls?

It seems like forever since I posted an update on fashion. Well, the last week hadn't been kind to me. As you might have read the previous post. It wasn't smooth sailing but I have to say, I did act like a drama queen. Oh well, we all have times like this. Plus, this semester's assignments are crazy! Maybe this is how you feel like in your final year (3rd). Well it's a first for me - like a virgin. Now speaking of a virgin, who better to represent than Queen Madonna.

Madonna A Virgin Again?
Well, we all know that she is everything but a virgin. But this time she just might be one. Well, I'm not sure whether she did it beforre but for fashion, I'm pretty sure that it is the first for her - excluding the Vogue MV because it's a MV?
Well, back to the topic, Madonna did a accidental directing for this season's Miu Miu commercial. When I say accidental, it is. It was like any good old day when Madonna stormed into the Miu Miu campaign shoot to invite photog Mert and Marcus for dinner.

When she was there, she just decided that she wants to direct the commercial for Miu Miu and then the crew said she won't be paid, in case she wants it. When agreed on the non-payment deal (She's Madonna and she's rich!), she whipped her iPod out and directed. Typical queen. She gets what she want when she wants it.
I think she did quite a good job. Well, must say it is a typical Madonna-esque music video.

Proenza Schouler on Art?
The much anticipated skinny by Jack and Lazaro for J Brand finally hits the stores - online. The pieces were grafitti'ed to perfection sold for $550 per piece.

You might think they're nuts to sell them for that price. But check this out, the jeans are individually hand painted.
Whoever buys these jeans would have a special disclaimer, "wash carefully only by hands and never iron!". You wouldn't want to machine wash $550 away.
So this might be considered as art but it's still just jeans or is it? Would you buy an over $500 jeans to wear or hang it in your wall as art?

I say they make fine pieces for your lounge.

Anna and Grace Dolls
Tired of the Bratz and Barbies? Well, here's an alternate doll for fashionistas in New York. Barneys recently commissioned artist, Andrew Yang to create these one of a kind couture dolls of Vogue editors - Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington.

These dolls are all hand sewn and painted to perfection. Couture dolls. Even they're hair were made exclusively to fit. Andrew had to special order a wig for Anna and personally cut the bob out and Grace's hair were actually permed and not factory made. Truly exquisite but I think there's two more missing. Andre Leon Talley and Toone Goodman. They would make a fine group of dolls.

These dolls will be auctioned off on Aug 31st on Charity Buzz for the New York City Aids Fund.

Walk of Fame: CFDA Awards 2010

How could I end the topic on CFDA without a cover on the red carpet of that night. And this carpet in particular weighs more than any other red carpets like Oscars, Grammy et al. Normal red carpets are only celebrities (actor/esses, singers, artist) but like the MET ball, this has what the normal ones have and more (designers, models, editors, bloggers). Of course, I have to get a post on it.

Before I show you the red carpet looks, let's talk about CFDA Awards happenings that I missed before. One of the things is the Special Tribute Award for McQueen. Told you that but did you know during the award, the Fall/Winter 2010 collection was showcased for more to see. As most of you might know, the collection was only shown to a handful of editors in a private event and all we could see is photos of it. But during the awards, guests and VIPs were graced with the collection as a tribute to the late McQueen.

Also, have you heard of the Kors story. So during the award for Michael Kors, Anna Wintour, e-i-c of Vogue/presenter of the award told us stories of Kors that we had never heard of. One of the big ones (now talked all over the net) was how Michael avoided a certain designer on a beach, just to aviod being seen in swimming trunks. Hmm...

Now back to the red carpet, Anna Wintour graced us with a Carolina Herrera dress with leaf prints on. Simple, chic and so much less extravagant that her dress for MET. Sarah Jessica Parker came in a butterfly inspired print McQueen evening dress chosen exclusively for her by Sarah Burton, the new creative head.

Young star, Dakota Fanning came in a beautiful Marchesa cocktail princess dress and Brian Atwood black open toe pumps. Vanessa Traina accompanied by Altuzarra, came in a fabulous dress altered and remade by Altuzarra from his recent collection. The final look was so much better than the one I saw on Style.com where they shown the fitting session.

More styles of guests as follows:

Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, winners of the night.
Marc in a crisp black suit and Wang in a simple white shirt. Both showing their personal style and design aesthetic like their works.

(Left)Tonne Goodman  and Carmen Kass (Right) in Michael Kors.
Michael Kors designs were everywhere that night.
Doutzen Kroes was also spotted wearing one of it.

Proenza Schouler designer team and Liya Kebede in their design.
Fabulous dress which was worn to the after party too with a tee on top of it (Right)

Model assembles in designs by Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang. Look more like a fashion shoot than a red carpet.

Alexander Wang design in a model assemble.

Last item before I end my hype on CFDA Awards, is of course the after-party at the top of Standard Hotel. Partying all night, win or lose. Another year came and gone. May those who did not win, get it next year. Those who did, continue to flourish!!

Ciao.

The Best and The Worst when we MET?

Well, May 3rd was a day to celebrate. What other than the annual party of the year, the Met Ball. A benefit organized by the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, in New York. As it had been for the past few years, this is the 'IT' event of the year. Everybody who is anybody pushes their way through every year to get in the list of invites.

This year, the benefit kicks off the opening of the American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity exhibit. Well, I don't know much of the actual event since I am not privileged enough to be in, yet. That's right, optimism is the key to success - or at least that's what I've heard.

So I am here to share with you the best and the worst outfit of the night. There were showstoppers and also drecktitudes (a new term I learn from ALT). Well for starters, the hostesses of the night. Two very powerful women in the entire world, Oprah Winfrey and Anna Wintour grace us with their presence on the red carpet. Oprah was in a stunning Oscar de le Renta dress. A black dress, with huge frills for skirt. She's Oprah - big, black, beautiful and loving it. Anna posed on the carpet with her very known daughter Bee. Anna was in a Chanel designed for her by Lagerfeld and Bee came with a gorgeous Balenciaga.

We then have my favourite models on line. Gisele with the beautiful grunge, rock and roll dress by Alexander Wang. She looked amazing. Then we have Coco Rocha wearing Zac Posen's Cloud Dress from 2008's collection with a massive train on the back which she made to a cape. It was to die for. Then we have Chanel Iman in a fabulous golden jumpsuit from Michael Kors. Victoria Secret's Alessandra Ambrosio in a Versace gown and Karolina Kurkova in a Altuzarra dress. Not so fancy for Karolina's because of the weird flap in the bust. Take the frills off and you are fab!
