Walk of Fame: CFDA Awards 2010

How could I end the topic on CFDA without a cover on the red carpet of that night. And this carpet in particular weighs more than any other red carpets like Oscars, Grammy et al. Normal red carpets are only celebrities (actor/esses, singers, artist) but like the MET ball, this has what the normal ones have and more (designers, models, editors, bloggers). Of course, I have to get a post on it.

Before I show you the red carpet looks, let's talk about CFDA Awards happenings that I missed before. One of the things is the Special Tribute Award for McQueen. Told you that but did you know during the award, the Fall/Winter 2010 collection was showcased for more to see. As most of you might know, the collection was only shown to a handful of editors in a private event and all we could see is photos of it. But during the awards, guests and VIPs were graced with the collection as a tribute to the late McQueen.

Also, have you heard of the Kors story. So during the award for Michael Kors, Anna Wintour, e-i-c of Vogue/presenter of the award told us stories of Kors that we had never heard of. One of the big ones (now talked all over the net) was how Michael avoided a certain designer on a beach, just to aviod being seen in swimming trunks. Hmm...

Now back to the red carpet, Anna Wintour graced us with a Carolina Herrera dress with leaf prints on. Simple, chic and so much less extravagant that her dress for MET. Sarah Jessica Parker came in a butterfly inspired print McQueen evening dress chosen exclusively for her by Sarah Burton, the new creative head.

Young star, Dakota Fanning came in a beautiful Marchesa cocktail princess dress and Brian Atwood black open toe pumps. Vanessa Traina accompanied by Altuzarra, came in a fabulous dress altered and remade by Altuzarra from his recent collection. The final look was so much better than the one I saw on Style.com where they shown the fitting session.

More styles of guests as follows:

Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, winners of the night.
Marc in a crisp black suit and Wang in a simple white shirt. Both showing their personal style and design aesthetic like their works.

(Left)Tonne Goodman  and Carmen Kass (Right) in Michael Kors.
Michael Kors designs were everywhere that night.
Doutzen Kroes was also spotted wearing one of it.

Proenza Schouler designer team and Liya Kebede in their design.
Fabulous dress which was worn to the after party too with a tee on top of it (Right)

Model assembles in designs by Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang. Look more like a fashion shoot than a red carpet.

Alexander Wang design in a model assemble.

Last item before I end my hype on CFDA Awards, is of course the after-party at the top of Standard Hotel. Partying all night, win or lose. Another year came and gone. May those who did not win, get it next year. Those who did, continue to flourish!!

Ciao.

Who Grabbed It at CFDA?

Finally, fashion equivalent of Oscars, the CFDA Awards was done and over with. I have mixed feelings about this. Happy that the winners were announced and my favs got it. Sad that it's over and another year to wait. Happy again because it was such a fabulous event (I want the red carpets asap!). Sad because I'm not a part of this night.

Whilst writing this, the after party in New York had probably begun. As they sip cocktails and talk about the night, I am here in my room, eating Milo yogurt and posting on my blog. Fun. Well, beggars can't be choosers. At least now I feel that I'm a small part of the event.
Well, on the winners! I have to say, if you read my previous post about predictions, then you know how true was the link I posted up. Almost everything hits its mark for the Awards. Fantastic.

Marc Jacobs won Womenswear Designer of The Year, and Alexander Wang bagged the Swarovski Accessories Designer of The Year. Love this result! Probably for Wang, it's like a consolation prize for not winning the Womenswear Award but an award is still an award, right?

Here's the list:

Board of Directors Special Tribute
Alexander McQueen
Womenswear Designer of the Year
Marc Jacobs
Menswear Designer of the Year
Rag & Bone
Accessory Designer of the Year
Alexis Bittar
Swarovski Award for Womenswear
Jason Wu

Alexander Wang

 ____________________________
Though some of my other favs did not win, but I think they have a good shot next year. Altuzarra, you're still fresh! There's plenty of chance.

Speaking of awards, the L'Oreal Popular Vote Awards, I think this was the one that we were allowed to vote on the website. Ralph Lauren won and I'm quite sadden by it. I thought Marc Jacobs would have a shot. Then again, Ralph Lauren is like a household brand in US, figures.

Well, all well ends well. Let's hope for another year of fabulous designs from them.
Ciao

CFDA Awards Predictions

With CFDA Awards coming up in a few hours, I can hardly sleep without thinking about it. With my mind wandering, i stumbled upon this prediction which I found quite true and satisfying. Marc Jacobs and Alexander of my fav list would win something. It's like the best combo. Though in the list, Altuzarra might not win. A pity but it seemed true (the predictions). So again fingers crossed for them!

Oh and am happy that Alexander McQueen will be getting the Special Tribute Award. Did I mention that? I think I did and Sarah Jessica will be presenting. Love.

Oh, and Tonne Goodman for Eleanor Lambert Award. In case you don't know, Goodman is the fashion director in Vogue!

Oh and Christopher Bailey of Burberry gets the International Award. I know there's too many "Oh"s but I'm excited! It's awesome.

Check here for the predictions: Who will be honored for CFDA Awards?

Ciao ><

PS: Blogger hates me. On more than one occassion, it shuts my Mozilla when I try to view/customize my blog. But posting has no problems. Why? It's either Blogger or Mozilla that hates me... I wonder.

Michael Kors for CFDA Lifetime Achievement

Big Announcement! Michael Kors is to receive the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Awards in less than 6 hours. Good one, Kors!

From starting his own label when he was 19 to becoming Celine's creative head at 1997, Project Runway's judge, he sure made his mark in the industry.  he is the acclaimed All American designer especially in American sportswear.

So, congratulations and I hope to see more from him. Can't wait for the CFDA in less than 6 hours! Wonder who would win.

I am torn for the Womenswear Designer of the Year, Marc jacobs or Alexander Wang? Both are my current favs. Maybe Marc, since he's more established and Wang has a longer way to go. Then again, both of them are successful. Hmm..

I'm all for Altuzarra for the Swarovski Womenswear Award. Fingers crossed and may the best designer win!

Another Late Night with Calvin & Show Studio

Time for another last night post before I sleep. One of the things that kept me awake tonight (it's 3 am) is Show Studio. For some reason, I forgot how I ended up in that website. It's a fashion blog/website that has projects featuring numbers of celebrities including designers. Well, the one who caught me in the net was Lady Gaga when she did an interview with Alexander Fury.

Check the site: Showstudio

Basically the questions are from all around the world, from John Galliano, Gareth Pugh, Quetin Tarantino to Edison Chen (Ugh). It was rather fun and interesting to watch. I'll talk less and put the video here for you people to watch.

(am not sure whether the link would change or not, Just find archive if it doesn't work. Sorry)

Another two videos in there that caught me were the new ad for Alexander McQueen's Puma and the full show for McQueen's "Plato's Atlantis" collection and a personal interview with the man himself. And again just watch it.

Alexander McQueen - Plato's Atlantis from SHOWstudio on Vimeo.

RAW POWER! (Click to watch since I can't embed it)

What's a post without a bit of fashion digest for the day. First off, we have CFDA Awards coming in 6 days. I would so trade anything to attend that awards night. it's gonna be major! But I'm a nobody now. Swear to god, that one day I'm gonna be on the list!
So, the council just released a bit of preview for viewers to get a taste of the awards. The council released some pictures that they shot of the designers nominated for the awards - that will be in a journal for the awards. It was quite an intimate shoot where all designers and their muses/aesthetics. A few was shown including Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Donna Karan. Somebody get me the damn book! I want it!

 Marc Jacobs

Womenswear Designer of the Year
Accessory Designer of the Year

 Alexander Wang
Nominated for:
Womenswear Designer of the Year
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design

 Donna Karan
Nominated for:
Womenswear Designer of the Year

That's all the digest for to night, nothing much but enough for the day - I figured. Nah, I'm just being lazy. Another a sneak peek to what I have been up to. I have always wanted to brush up my illustration skills for fashion but of course, I procrastinated as always. So I did something simple out to try out.

It's just something lame. Am trying to get the anatomy correct before I go for the design part. What do you think? For an amateur, is it bad??? I have more but this is the one I colored for the first time, so I decide to post it up. Don't laugh ><

Anyway Ciao for the night.
