The Best and The Worst when we MET?

Well, May 3rd was a day to celebrate. What other than the annual party of the year, the Met Ball. A benefit organized by the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, in New York. As it had been for the past few years, this is the 'IT' event of the year. Everybody who is anybody pushes their way through every year to get in the list of invites.

This year, the benefit kicks off the opening of the American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity exhibit. Well, I don't know much of the actual event since I am not privileged enough to be in, yet. That's right, optimism is the key to success - or at least that's what I've heard.

So I am here to share with you the best and the worst outfit of the night. There were showstoppers and also drecktitudes (a new term I learn from ALT). Well for starters, the hostesses of the night. Two very powerful women in the entire world, Oprah Winfrey and Anna Wintour grace us with their presence on the red carpet. Oprah was in a stunning Oscar de le Renta dress. A black dress, with huge frills for skirt. She's Oprah - big, black, beautiful and loving it. Anna posed on the carpet with her very known daughter Bee. Anna was in a Chanel designed for her by Lagerfeld and Bee came with a gorgeous Balenciaga.

We then have my favourite models on line. Gisele with the beautiful grunge, rock and roll dress by Alexander Wang. She looked amazing. Then we have Coco Rocha wearing Zac Posen's Cloud Dress from 2008's collection with a massive train on the back which she made to a cape. It was to die for. Then we have Chanel Iman in a fabulous golden jumpsuit from Michael Kors. Victoria Secret's Alessandra Ambrosio in a Versace gown and Karolina Kurkova in a Altuzarra dress. Not so fancy for Karolina's because of the weird flap in the bust. Take the frills off and you are fab!

Onto celebs, there are plenty of blog worthy dress. Blake Lively was spotted with a short embroidered blue mini dress from Marchesa. Totally hot and even better than her recent GG style. Serena is not much of my tea anymore but Blake definitely is. JLO was in a pale golden gown embroidered with feather like pieces all to the third quarter of the puffy hem by Zuhair Murad. Stunning as usual. Renee Sellweger of Bridgette Jones wore a fishtail from Carolina Herrera with a huge flower bow on the hips and SJP in a sparkly Halston dress are all too beautiful. Lastly we have Tina Fey in a YSL jumpsuit. Formal, smart and composed just like herself.

Before I show you the train wrecks, we have some young guns of Hollywood gracing us. Taylor Swift came in simple Ralph Lauren which have a feel of her Love Story MV in it and then we have the famous niece of Julia Roberts, Emma in a cute Marni mini on. Another Emma came, my favourite Burberry girl wearing, of course Burberry stomped the carpet with the designer himself.

Last to show is the drecktitudes or train wrecks of Met red carpet. First on line is Maggie Gyllenhaal wearing a Louis Vuitton dress which I think you have seen from my recent F/W New York 2010 post. It was similar to the one I showed Coco Rocha wearing for the fashion show but she look like a post war mannequin which the weird makeup which makes her look bad in the dress. Love the dress but not on her. She should go for something simple. Then we have Kirsten Dunst in  Rodarte, nothing wrong except that if you go for the dress wear another heel. Too much there, honey. Less is more. You look like a corpse bride with bad shoes. Even Mulleavy sisters look better than you. And to the unknown sister of the Jackson 5. I wish I have a chainsaw for the tree log on the head. That is so wrong. She look like a character from an ancient chinese movie I watched when I was a kid. Dress is fine but the hair - ugh! Lastly Katy Perry, she does not know when to stop. Being creative and all is fine but a neon lite dress is not cool. She look like a flashing billboard off the Vegas Streets. Can't really see from the pic but if you see the video on Style.com. You would go OMG! She takes her song, Waking Up in Vegas to seriously.

Well that's my two cents on Met. Ciao.

Oh I almost forgot. before the end, some other looks I like in MET and also the fabulous dress by Alexander McQueen worn by Cate Blanchett in Cannes.

Anne Hathaway and Kate Bosworth in Valentino

Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler in Stella McCartney designs together with the designer

Anja Rubik in Altuzarra

Donna Karan in her own

Cate Blanchett in a spectacular McQueen dress for Robin Hood premier in Cannes.

Okay, I have to stop now. Sorry for small pics. Have to keep the post shorter. If you want a clear view of the pic, click on it to view a larger size or visit STYLE.COM for other looks in MET BALL.
