Fashion Video Digest and Something Else?

These are some interesting videos I came across in youtube which made me laugh. Well, kind of? The first one is by Robert Hoffman. This dude never cease to entertain me. It's a video about what does not make you a model! A special message to those out there who thinks they can be a model but never realize they can't. Be realistic!

This is another good video from a while ago. So showstudio.com made a video of Raquel Zimmermann wearing a Gareth Pugh gown and impersonating Lady Gaga. It made me smile rather than laugh. And again Raquel is the best, one of my favourite models!

And here's a behind the scenes video of Prada's F/W campaign. As you have seen in my previous post on F/W campaigns, you know this is from Steven Meisel. Another legend to be reckoned with. The jazz mode with HairSpray kind of hair. A light heart video perfect for a fashion digest.
But seriously, aside from the photos I've seen of Meisel in Vogue, I can't find much of him. Even this video does not show a slightest hint of him.

Aside from the video, here's something interesting. So I found this Alexander McQueen undies for men which look so cool. I might just get my hands on one of them if it's not 50 euros for one. Damn those are expensive. Then again, it is McQueen! He will forever be my legendary designer!
See? They just look so cool. It sold in Oki-Ni website.

The Best Of Fall Campaigns 2010

Just a short post with a lot of photo shoots and side commentaries.  This years Fall?Winter campaigns shows a lot of promise. There's Hermes, Donna Karan, Prada, and more. Featuring in some of these ads are Karen, Natalia, Karlie - just to name a few of the supermodels. A truly fantastic season.

This season, Steven Meisel raked the most shoots as far as I know. Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Lanvin was all by him. Mert and Marcus did well too with CK Jeans and Dsquared.

Without babbling for too long, lets get on to it. First off we have:
Note: For some of the shoots, it's smaller, so click on it to have a better view

Dsquared never cease to amaze me. With a Spring/Summer that was so hot, they came with a new definition of hotness.

S/S shows couture-ish campaign in the wilds and now with glass exhibition boxes?
Truly a breathtaking one by Mert and Marcus.

Hermes did a marvellous job this season too.
To me, it seemed like a Zorro-ish take on Rapunzel to me.
Showcasing the all famous line of scarves in an unconventional way by Paolo Roversi.
Oh Rapunzel, Rapunzel, please put down your scarf?

Then we have Chloe's with Raquel Zimmermann by Inez and Vinoodh.
Though there's a side mirror of a car dominating the photo, Raquel never cease to shine with the fabulous camel outfits.

Now we have Dolce and Gabbana's menswear by Steven Klein.
It seems to go back in time to the old France or in their case Sicily.
A good black and white which signifies Dolce and Gabbana's classic sense.
Just like their womenswear show in F/W. A reminiscence to the beginning.

The two that Karlie Kloss landed now gives a sense of empowerment for women.
Dior snapped by Meisel and Donna Karan by Patrick Demarchelier.
Two very different artist but gives the same feeling to me. Power and strength of the modern age women.
Also, Donna Karan's shoot looked like Ada Choi in Fly with Me.

Burberry did themselves justice too.
Another one by Mario. Simple, modern and class are the words.
Even with so many models, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley shines more than the others.
Maybe because of her bright hair and presence.
Victoria's Secret Angel and now replacing Megan Fox for Transformers, she is the bomb!

Christy Turlington, Karen Elson and Natalia Vodianova.
Three very different but empowering goddess blends themselves together to create this shoot by Steven Meisel.
A simple look of what seems to be the backstage of LV's  fashion show speaks more than it seems.
What's better to show their collection than the backstage where everything happens!

Prada was made magnificent by Meisel with two series of the photoshoot. Above is the mens in black and white and the side and bottom shoot in color for women.

It feels like a 1960s Hairspray moment for me here. The huge hairdo and performance and romance to it hits the perfect mark.

The shot on the shoes is just perfect to describe the 1960s Hairspray moment. Afterall it's all music and of course, DANCE!

Lanvin's new campaign looked like a improved version of their pervious campaign.
The previous was plainer and simple where as this plays a lot with texture and fabrication.
With the lining of the background, the three looked like fabulous giantess ready to strike.
And of course it is by Meisel.

Yet another fabulous job by Mert and Marcus.
Though it is not Calvin Klein collection and just CK jeans, this shoot shines potential and artistry that I have to post it up.
Something about the rough red paint outline and black and white image speaks to me.
And Lara Stone definitely made it better.
This is an ad that sells sensuality without going over to raunchy sexual image.

Yves Saint Laurent reused the simple frame like theme but in black and white for this season.
To me, it do not seem overused or out of date, after all something so classic and simple can never go out of style.
DariaWerbowy shoot by Ineez and Vinoodh.

I know I said it was a short post,  but it made too long with all the fabulous shoots. it is short in a sense, less words. Just the images taking all the space. Apologies. Enjoy.

By the way, if you want to see more of these campaigns, go to FASHION GONE ROGUE. I did not post all the photos of each brand. just one of each which I think was the best!

And this is a new layout, like it? The rate it please?

That's all. Ciao.

A Tribute to the Godfather, my idol: Steven Meisel

Steven Meisel: World-renowned photographer (Take that Nigel!), Classmates and Best friend of Anna Sui, Maker of fashion's top models, Best-friend and father figure to most of the A-List models, Introduced Madonna to the idea of reinvention, and Photographer for all Italia Vogue's cover since 1988.

He was exactly what I want to be. Except for the fact that I want to be a journalist in fashion and not a photographer. Then again he did do magazines before becoming a photographer, Womens' Wear Daily for one.

Reading through the coverage of him by Jonathan Van Meter in Vogue was inspiring and in a way a pretty big 'LUCK' that I found this treasure.

It is on sheer luck that I found THE GODFATHER (dubbed from Vogue May 2009) and idolizes him as fast as a lightning flash pass. But the difference of it from lightning is that lightning flash pass and disappear without a trace in a mere second and he was stuck in my head till now.

It was a unplanned day out with my bud, Joey. I called, she picked up and in 10 minutes I was on my way to fetch her out. When we met, the big question of all young adults popped, "Where should we go?" Making a snap decision, we went to The Curve for Borders as we both wanted to look at some reference books, her was Designing (Graphic and Adv) whereas I obviously was looking at fashion design (predictable huh?).

We went to the wrong carpark when we reached (Cineleisure instead of The Curve). Smart! As usual (can't blame me for not driving in Malaysia for half a year). So, we parked in the 'wrong' parking area and went up to the 'wrong' shopping mall. As we scale up the escalator, there was rows and rows of magazines lying on long tables across the Cineleisure concourse. I whizzed pass, stealing a glance over the pile and saw old magazines. Most from last year and the year before. I dismissed the idea of stopping and decided to come after the Borders salvage.

Okay... now to speed up the story
>>>>>> Two hours later>>>>>>>
Back to the magazine pile up, I ran through the stuff, I saw Vogues, W, Elle, Times,Mens' Health, Womens' Health, Golf, and it goes on. Main point, I saw piles of Vogue from last year. Have most of it already and was planning to leave. That was the moment, the cover of Vogue May 2009 caught my eye. The Model Issue. There it was, sitting neatly next to a pile of "I already have those". Pick it up and saw Natalia Vodianova, one of the three girls on the front that I recognize.

I flicked open the magazine and it was a spread cover with some of the most noted models. Still wondering why they didn't place Gisele there. Hmph! The issue was focused on Models, duh? The Model Issue.

So I bought and read it. Meisel's story was pretty damn interesting. It was more of an fashion epic than an biographical article. From how he used to visit Saks and Bergdorf and how he always teams up with Anna Sui and go around town picking random girls, dress em' up and take fabulous photos - It was all captivating. I understood how models and people in the fashion industry adores him. He was like a Guru enlightened with wisdom of the above. A Holy Saint, I must say. Looking through his works of art was definitely breathtaking especially one of the ads from 2009, Lanvin Fall 2009 ad.

I am so grateful how things turn out that day and I got my hands on the book. Loved it till the very last bits including the article on Lynn Yaeger surviving after losing her job. I have to say this is the best issue of Vogue I've ever read.

So there you go, my tribute to the mighty Meisel.

You're my Idol. Standing in line with Anna Wintour. Both have all that I want. Hopefully one day I would join your ranks in the Vogue Hall of Fame. Fingers crossed and work hard!
